PTSA Weekly Update - 11/1/2026

11/1/2026 12:42 pm

Parent Social This Thursday, November 5th at Community Brewing - 6:30pm

Our first parent social of the year is Thursday, November 5 at Community Brewing, and every SEM parent is welcome.

No agenda, no program - just SEM parents in the same room for a couple of hours. If you've been to a meeting and wanted to keep talking, or you've never been to anything and would rather start somewhere casual, this is the one.

You can find the Evite here

Four New GroupMe Groups - One for Each Grade

We've set up a GroupMe group for every grade, so you can reach the parents whose kids are going through exactly what yours are. Carpools, questions about a class, who's going to what, the stuff that doesn't need a newsletter.

Class of 2027 (seniors)

Class of 2028 (juniors)

Class of 2029 (sophomores)

Class of 2030 (freshmen)

Join the one for your student's grade - and if you have students in more than one, join both.

Junior Parents: November Is Your Month for Stock the Pantry

The Stock the Pantry rotation moves to junior families in November. It keeps the teacher's lounge stocked for the people who look after our students all day, and it's a small lift.

Claiming one item is the whole ask. Send it to school with your student and hand it to Ms. Martinez in the SEM office, or ship it straight to the front office and skip the trip.

Shipping address:

C/O Ms. Mary Martinez, Townview-SEM

Together We Soar Fundraising Campaign

The PTSA runs on what families give. There are no district funds behind what we do. Every teacher appreciation lunch, every event, every bit of support we put behind SEM students comes from this community choosing to chip in. Together We Soar is how we fund the year in one focused push.

Together We Soar is open to families and to businesses, and every level comes with SEM swag to say thank you.

Sophomore Parents: Last Week for the Teacher's Lounge

October is your month, and it closes this week. If you've been meaning to claim something, this is the time. Thank you to everyone who has claimed something so far. Claiming an item is the whole ask. Send it to school with your student, or ship it straight to the front office and skip the trip entirely.

Looking ahead: November belongs to junior parents, and December to senior parents. If that's your grade, now's a good time to put it on the calendar.

You can sign up for an item here.

Thank You, Haunted Hallways Volunteers!

Thank you to everyone who claimed an item off the materials list, decorated, ran snack sales, and stayed to take it all back down. If you were there in any capacity - an hour, a carload of supplies, a shift at a table - thank you. Our students had a fun night at school they'll remember, and you're the reason.

The October PTSA Meeting is on Tuesday, October 20th - 6:30pm

Our October meeting is Tuesday night in Room 211, the teacher’s lounge, and every SEM family is welcome. You don’t need to be a member to come, and you don’t need to volunteer for anything by showing up. Join us in person or on Zoom.

The meeting link is here

Haunted Hallways Is Thursday, October 22

Our Halloween event is less than two weeks out, and we need help gathering materials before we can build anything. There are more than 30 items on the list.

The good news is that this is the easiest kind of volunteering there is. Most items have an Amazon link right in the sign-up, so claiming one takes a couple of clicks and you never have to leave the house. The list runs from the ordinary to the wonderfully strange: paint, construction paper, black trash bags, candy, fake blood, flickering LED lights, a clown wig, a Ouija board, and at least one Annabelle doll.

Every item claimed is one fewer thing a volunteer buys out of pocket the night before. Even one helps.

Drop off at the SEM office or ship directly to:

Ms. Martinez - Haunted Hallways

School of Science and Engineering

1201 E. Eighth Street, Suite 216

Dallas, TX 75203

Sophomore Parents: October Is Your Month for the Teacher's Lounge

Our Stock the Lounge rotation is with sophomore families this month, and you're already about halfway there. Thank you to everyone who has claimed something so far. Claiming an item is the whole ask. Send it to school with your student, or ship it straight to the front office and skip the trip entirely.

You can sign up for an item here.

Remaining Committe Chair Help Needed

We Need a Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator is the person who knows what help is needed and who said they'd help. You'd build the sign-ups, send the reminders, and connect people who want to pitch in with the events that need them. You don't run the events yourself. You're the switchboard.

We're also looking for people help out with 2029 and 2030 Parent Teams, Fundraising, SEM Socials, Hope Squad, School Wish List, and Teacher Appreciation.

Interested, or just want to hear more before deciding? Email ptsa@semagnet.org and we'll talk. No commitment in asking.

Coming October 1: Together We Soar

Mark your calendar - our fall fundraiser, Together We Soar, kicks off Thursday, October 1. This is the PTSA's big push of the fall, and it's how we fund the things that make a difference for SEM students and teachers throughout the year.

Details are coming, so watch this space over the next week. For now, all we're asking is that you save the date - and tell another SEM family it's coming.

PTSA Weekly Update - 9/20/2026

9/20/2026 3:56 pm

Thank You for Coming Out Tuesday

Our first PTSA Community Meeting of the year was Tuesday night, and we want to start by thanking everyone who came - in person and on Zoom. Weeknights can be hectic, and we're glad you made the time to be there.

Interested in a Committee?

Our committees are where most of the PTSA's work actually happens, and several of them still need people. If you'd like to help with one, email us at ptsa@semagnet.org and tell us what you're drawn to:

  • Teacher Appreciation
  • Fundraising
  • School Wish List
  • SEM Socials
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Website
  • Hope Squad
  • Membership
  • Finance/Treasurer
  • Senior Class Committee (2027)
  • Sophomore Committee (2029)
  • Freshman Committee (2030)

You don't need to have done this before, and you don't need to commit to a chair role to get involved. And if you've already told us you're interested - thank you. We'll be reaching out to you this week.

Questions, ideas, or concerns?

PTSA Weekly Update - 9/13/2026

9/13/2026 2:12 pm

PTSA COMMUNITY MEETING - Tuesday September 15th - 6:30pm

Our first PTSA Community Meeting of the year is this Tuesday, September 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the SEM Teacher Lounge - and every SEM family is welcome.

If you've never been to one, these meetings are where you find out what's actually going on: what the PTSA is working on, where the money goes, what's coming up, and where help is needed. They're also the easiest place to meet other SEM parents and ask the questions that are hard to get answered by email. You don't need to be a member to attend.

The meeting begins at approximately 6:30 p.m., right after SBDM wraps up. You're welcome to join us remotely, but we'd love to see you in person if you can make it .

The link to the Zoom call is here

The meeting agenda can be found here

Freshman Parents - Stock the Pantry: Two Weeks Still Need a Coordinator

Freshman families have really come through on Stock the Pantry, our month-long effort to keep the SEM teacher's lounge stocked. Every single donation slot has been claimed - the fruit, the muffins, the granola bars, the Goldfish, the popcorn. All of it. Thank you.

What we still need is a Weekly Parent Volunteer for two weeks: the week of September 21 and the week of September 28. It's a light lift - you're the parent coordinating that week's goodies and making sure they make it to the lounge. If you've been meaning to get involved and haven't found the right entry point, this is a good one.

Questions? Reach us any time at ptsa@semagnet.org. We hope to see you Tuesday.

SEM Spirit Night @ Freeplay

Big thanks to everyone who came out for some games and the Pinball Tournament! We had 60+ students, family, and staff join us at our first SEM Spirit Nite, raising $290!

If you have any ideas for or want to help organize future community Spirit Nites or Parent socials, please email Jaime at programs@semagnet.org

Stock the teacher's Lounge - Freshman Parents

One of the simplest ways we say thank you to the people who look after our students all day is keeping the SEM teacher's lounge stocked with snacks and drinks. It's a small thing that gets noticed, especially in the middle of a long week.

Here's how it works: each grade level takes a turn covering a month. Parents can sign up two ways - as a Weekly Parent Volunteer, who coordinates the goodies for one week, or by claiming a single item to donate. Think fruit, mini muffins, granola bars, individual bags of Goldfish or popcorn, juices, flavored waters, coffee creamer, and bottled teas. Donations can go to school with your student and be handed to Ms. Martinez in the SEM office - no special trip required.

Freshman parents are up first, and their sign-up is open now. If you have a freshman, please take a look - there are still weeks and items waiting to be claimed.

Here's the rest of the year so you can plan ahead:

  • October - Sophomore parents
  • November - Junior parents
  • December - Senior parents

If your month is coming, now's a good time to put it on the calendar. When your turn arrives we'll share the sign-up link, and claiming one item takes about a minute.

Freshman parents, sign up here!

Spirit Night @ Free Play is this tuesday, August 25th!

A friendly reminder that our first-ever SEM Spirit Night is this Tuesday, August 25, at Free Play in Trinity Groves - and the whole SEM community is invited. Staff, students, parents, friends, everyone.

Doors open right after school and we have the place until 9 p.m. Admission is $12.89 plus tax, and food and drinks are available if you'd like to stay for dinner.

Around 5:30 p.m., SEM staff and students go head to head in a special competition. Bragging rights are on the line, and we'd love an audience.

One important thing: please mention you're with SEM at the entrance. That's how $5 from your admission makes its way back to the PTSA - it only counts if you say so.

Free Play is at 3015 Gulden Lane. Parking is free with validation, and you can pick up the code at the host stand.

RSVP here!
